Harry FOTHERINGHAM Obituary

April 9 1930 - August 2 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Harry Fotheringham, on Sunday, August 2, 2020, in his 91st year. Harry is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen. He will be dearly missed by his children Ian [Marlene], Kim [Paul], Janet [Terry], his grandchildren Kate [Brendon], Breeann, Erin, Aimée, Cole and his great-grandchildren Felicity and Keith. Born in Montrose, Scotland, Harry immigrated to Canada in 1951. He worked for the Hamilton Fire Department and then for the Ontario Ministry of Housing. Harry loved many things in life; golf, hockey, travelling to Myrtle Beach and his beloved homeland, Scotland. But nothing was more dear to him than his family. Harry was a master storyteller and was always eager to share a joke with family and friends. His grandchildren were often his favourite targets. Harry was inducted into the Hamilton Hockey Hall of Fame as a founding member of the Hamilton Huskies and was one of the original owners of the Hamilton Kilty B's. He was also a member of St. Andrew's Masonic Lodge and a regular at the Glancaster Golf Course. Throughout his life, Harry made many lasting friendships through his involvement in the Hamilton sports community. A special thank you to the nursing and PSW staff of Griffin Walk at The Meadows LTC in Ancaster. A private family service has been held. Due to COVID restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Pour a wee dram in memory of Hal. Just heard the sad news. My sincere condolences to Ian, Kim, Janet and all the family.

Harry was a big supporter of mine in all my years of coaching in the Huskies and with the Kilty B's. He was always a joy to be around because of his stories and jokes.

Many fond memories from our trips to Quebec for the Peewee Tournament in particular him tubing and rafting at the winter snow park, out lasting most of us when he was well into his 60's.

Will forever remember him, may he rest in peace.

Ian

I never met you father, but he must have been quite the guy. I am truly sorry for your loss. By now he’ll have taken, in the words of that beautiful love song Loch Lomond, the low road to his beloved Scotland.

Ian, I am very sorry for your and your family's loss.

Your Dad was a very special man, who by all accounts, spread love every step of his way through life.
I remember many kind words from him when we played hockey together.
I still have this very clear picture in my mind of your Dad, who seemed to be a fixture at all our hockey games, perched at the top of rink, leaning on the top rail.
Rest in peace sir, after a life well lived.

Ian and the entire Fotheringham Family. My deepest condolences to you all. Harry was so unique in his own way. The pride shown for his family was remarkable. He loved to travel to each and every sporting event, mainly hockey, to watch Ian play. Even as a senior, Harry would travel around the province to watch Ian play for the Hamilton Police Tournament Team. He was the team “Dad” at each event. His memories have been embedded in each person he has met in his lifetime.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. Harry was one of my favourite people to sit and chat with, as he had so many great stories to tell!
The love and devotion you all showed Harry was a beautiful thing to witness, and it was an honour to have met you all as we came together to care for your Dad.

Sending love,
