It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry Campsall Harkness on October 11, 2022 in his 100th year.
Harry was predeceased by his beloved wife Reta (Brooke) of over 55 years. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Barb Connelly and son Don Harkness (Julie) as well as his grandchildren Joanna, Claire, Luke and Rose and step-granddaughters Shannon and Courtney.
Harry was born in Kingston, Ontario in 1923 to Harry and Florence Harkness. He is predeceased by his siblings Fred and Florence. Harry's engineering studies at Queens University were interrupted when he enlisted in the air force during WWll. Following the end of the war Harry attended Kingston Business College where he stayed on to teach business mathematics. Shortly after becoming a Chartered Accountant in 1954, Harry moved to Toronto to join the federal government where he continued his career for over 35 years. In retirement Harry and Reta moved to Oakville and then Hamilton where he continued to share his knowledge and experience in various volunteer roles. Harry and Reta were active members of St. Paul's United Church (Oakville) and Marshall Memorial United Church (Ancaster). They also enjoyed boating, square dancing and travel.
The family would like to thank Harry's good friend and companion Dorothy Miller for her kindness and support as well as the excellent care provided by Dr. Feng and the staff of Chartwell Deerview Crossing Retirement Residence.
To honour Harry's memory, please consider doing a few of the things he loved to do - get out for a walk or a drive to enjoy nature - especially by the waterfront with the ducks and swans, and cherish your family as he did.
Cremation will be intrusted to Dodsworth & Brown in Ancaster. Following Harry's wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date to honour and celebrate his life.
