Helen ALLDIS Obituary

On Saturday, October 29, 2021, our mother passed away peacefully in her 100th year with family by her side. Born on Valentine's Day, 1922 to Will and Pearl Irons, she was called Sterling by her family and Helen by her friends. Sterling was predeceased by her loving husband, John Mac-Donald Alldis in 1974 and is survived by her children Ross (Lois) and Mark, grand-children Adam (Mary Ann), Lindsay (Greg), John and great-grandchildren Charlotte, Evelyn and Will. Sterling was the second born of four sisters, the late Hazel (the late Jimmy Blackwood), Florence (the late Bill Hart) and Edna (the late Burr Henderson). Sterling was singularly likeable and sociable, able to make friends easily and keeping them forever as was the case of childhood friends Thelma and Mabel. A lady in every sense of the word, she had a distinctive laugh, a flair for style, a love of classical music, and travel. An accomplished seamstress, she was generous with her creations. A long-time member of Centenary United Church (now New Vision United Church), she retired as bookkeeper at the age of 82. The wonderful friends she made there have kept in touch with her until the end. Sadly, Sterling was afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease for the last 15 years. Although it robbed her of her memories and health, it had no impact on her sunny disposition or cooperative nature. In 2013, home for her became the Villages of Tansley Woods, Burlington. The Alldis family will be forever grateful for the exemplary care she received. She was treated with tender-ness, respect and under-standing and kept safe from Covid. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Ave. Dr. in Stoney Creek on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to New Vision United Church, 24 Main St W, Hamilton, ON L8P 1H2 or charity of your choice.
