Irene Cummings Obituary
Irene was born in Bracebridge in 1927 to Walter and Christina Cummings and grew up in Guelph and Hamilton. After high school, Irene followed her older sister Elizabeth into the nursing profession. Irene had many traits required of nursing: dedication to others, caring, generosity, persistence and practicality all wrapped up in a highly-developed sense of humour.
Irene worked diligently at her craft, received a BSc from the University of Toronto and became a head nurse of orthopaedics at Hamilton General Hospital.
Many will attest to Irene's culinary skills. She would spare no effort and loved entertaining both at her home in Hamilton and at her cottage in Port Elgin.
Irene's family motto is "Courage" and she proudly displayed it to the end. Irene's memory is dearly cherished by her nephews and niece, her cousins, her many colleagues in the nursing profession and all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held in the Fall.

I remember Irene as she was a friend of my mom, Marguerite Hadala. When I heard Irene's voice in the house I would come running just so I could listen to them talk and laugh. I will always remember her kindness and the fun times she had with my mom. My condolences to her family.

Irene was my head nurse on Ward 22 and 6 West at Hamilton General Hospital where I worked as an RN for 16 years. Her dedication to her patients and staff was amazing. We all worked as a great team under her guidance. She was patient and calm despite the pressures of an extremely busy work place.
Thank you so much Irene for being a wonderful boss, role model and most of all friend.
