I'm saddened to learn of the passing of Jack Leon, my former sport psychologist, mentor and friend.
Jack was an integral part of my "performance team" through my career as an athlete, notably during the years I played football at McMaster. I remember going over to his place (which was just down the street from the house I lived in off campus) every Friday night in the fall to work on our mental plan for the game that week. I always left his place feeling confident and ready to perform at my best.
Jack was genuine and he cared. Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist Linda Thom, who Jack worked with back when he was on the coaching staff of the Canadian Shooting Team, spoke to this as well in an article chronicling her journey to Olympic gold - "He was good because he was there for the shooters and not for himself. He said that beforehand, and he really meant it. Some people will say that, then go off partying somewhere. He was there one hundred percent doing his job night and day right along with the coaches, when we needed him..."
That was Jack. He was in it for all the right reasons. He was someone who always had my back and believed in what I could do. After my football career was over, I moved on to the sport of bobsleigh. I competed for Canada for 6 years. In 2018, I was named to the Canadian Olympic team and traveled to Pyeongchang, South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. I am fortunate to have reached the heights I did in my athletic career and I owe a lot of that to Jack.
Over the years, Jack became a part of our family and made regular appearances at family events and get-togethers. He was often referred to as "Uncle Jack." I'll never forget the love and support he showed me and my family through the years, as well as the impact he's had on me as both an athlete and a man.
Love you Jack. Rest in Peace.

I worked with Jack as a summer student in the counselling office at Mohawk College many years ago. He was one of four counselors at the time. Jack was professional, easy going, with a great sense of humour.

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Jack Leon. My wife noticed his obituary this morning. Jack encouraged me to continue my studies in the United States back in 1979, while at Mohawk College. He was also there when my mum died in 1979. Tough time for me because I was dealing with my mum’s illness and continuing my studies. He pushed me to dream big and never give up. He was instrumental with continuing my education. Back then, I had applied to over 50 US universities. I finally chose Arizona State University. Jack taught me the value and importance of education... Several years later, in 1987, my wife and I were thrilled to have Jack as our Master of Ceremony at our wedding... I knew that one of Jack’s favourite bands was The Doors. He idolized Jim Morrison. The song ‘Light My Fire’ is one of my favourite songs of all time. Jack, I hope that every day you attend a rock concert in heaven. You will be front row centre, listening to the likes of Elvis, Aretha Franklin, Brian Jones, Freddy Mercury, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, George Harrison, Marvin Gaye and, of course, Jim Morrison and Ray Manzerek of The Doors. (Jack died the same day Elvis and Aretha died, August 16, by the way.) Please listen to all sorts of music and artists. Jack, enjoy the free concerts. You deserve it... As time passed by, we unfortunately saw less of each other. Yet, I never forgot your inspiration! Thank you for believing in me so many years ago! God Bless. Love Bianca and Frank Bozzo

Jack was a delightful person to know. My years at Mohawk College were brightened by my frequent conversations with Jack. My deepest sympathies to the family, Margaret Thurston
