Jacob VERBOON Obituary

March 5, 1934 - May 28, 2022
Jack passed peacefully, at his home, on May 28, 2022 at 88 years of age. Jack was pre-deceased by his wife and best friend, Jane Verboon, who passed away in 2017. Jack and Jane were partners in everything - from raising their four boys and running Tower Service Station, to traveling in their motorhome across North America, and volunteering in Ghana. He will be missed by his family: Judy (Bill), Jerry and Lois, Rich and Cindy, Ben and Patti-Anne and his eight grandchildren Andrew, Wes, Hannah, Will, Matt, Adam, Seanna and Jackie, and his great-grandson, Timmy. Jack will also be missed by his dear friend Helen Silverthorne and family and a wonderful group of friends. Jack often told the story about arriving in Canada from The Netherlands with only $20 and a toolbox. He worked hard to make a great life for his family, and was an avid camper and water skier, a passion he shared with his children. He touched many people in the Hamilton area through Tower Service Station and continued to enjoy Friday afternoon coffee breaks with the staff and friends at the station, even after he retired. As a family we would like to thank the extended medical community including the entire dialysis team at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton and the nurses and PSW's who provided care and enabled him to stay at home until he passed. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6th at 3:00 p.m. at Meadowlands Christian Reformed Church.

When I think of Jack Verboon, the first thing that comes to mind is his radiant smile. I have known him for a long time...I don't remember a time when I didn't know him, and Jane, because my Dad and Jack were first cousins.
He taught me how to ski, and he taught me what a strong family man, who loved life, looked like.
Jack and Jane took me in when I went to Bruno's Hairdressing school. I'll never forget their hospitality, and kindness. Their home became my second home...I loved it there! I watched their spirit of adventure with the boys, like snowmobiling, and having a wiener roast in the winter, and going to the cottage to ski with the whole family.
Jack and Jane were an inspiration to me, how they truly enjoyed life, sharing their giftedness with me and many others, even to the people of Ghana.
I just learned today of Jack's passing, and regretfully am unable to attend the memorial, although my heart, and prayer is with the family. He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten. Jack has greatly influence me, by modelling how to raise our family...by that radiant smile!
With deepest sympathy,
Joyce and Charles Fisher

Our sincere condolences to the Verboon family. Jack was a dear friend to both our mom and dad, Audrey and Howard Montgomery but especially our dad who made Tower Service Station his home away from home and spent many hours of his retirement there. Jack and Jane were both very kind to our mom after our dad passed in 1994. I know my dad´s retirement was made so much sweeter because of their friendship.
