James Cranston Obituary

Peacefully on May 15, 2022, surrounded by his adoring family, James Robert "Bob" Cranston (MD, Queen's University), son of the late Frederick Lawrence and Geraldine Killeen Cranston of Toronto, much loved husband of the late Ann McIntosh Cranston. The beloved father of Don (Megan Hill), Lynda (David Le Gallais) and Mary (Kevin Spencer), and cherished uncle to Fred Cranston (Diane). Loved by his grandchildren Sarah, Wesley (Christina Di Cosola), Owen, Hugh, Isabel, Jack, Ann and Jane, and his Cranston and Donevan nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Larry, Peter and twin Don. Survived by his sisters-in-law June Cranston, Colleen Donevan and Kathy Donevan. Since Ann's passing, Bob was a caring companion to Barbara Wingfield.
Bob lived by the motto: Work hard, be optimistic and love your family. He was a gifted clinician and surgeon but, when asked many years ago to list his greatest life accomplishments, he didn't name his degrees or career achievements, but the children he and Ann had raised. We know that Ann has welcomed Bob back home with a scotch whisky at hand and Sinatra playing.
The family thanks the special care provided by the staff at The Hamilton General Hospital, where Bob practiced medicine for over 40 years. Special thanks to Dr Sophie Corriveau and nurses Ashley and Michelle for their true compassion and support.
Funeral at St. John's Anglican Church, 272 Wilson St. East, Ancaster, Ontario on Friday, May 27th, at 11am (please note: masks are mandatory during the service). Reception will follow at The Tamahaac Club, 180 Filman Road, Ancaster. Donations, if desired, to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation or to St. John's Anglican Church.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavement grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

I just heard this very sad news; our sincere condolences from the Allan´s. I adored your parents. Our mom Jane Wright and Fred Wright were their friends for years... xoxo

Don. Sending you and the family my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. Dr. Bob Cranston certainly made an impact on his profession, his community and most importantly, his family. I trust your memories of him will provide you and the extended Cranston Family comfort during the days ahead. CB

You will be surely by all who knew you in this life. Give Ann a hug when you see her. I still miss her mischievous self! Hugs to Mary!

Bob and Ann were wonderful friends to both of us. We have missed Ann over the past few years, but continued to benefit from Bob´s wisdom and sense of humour over many dinners and scotches on what was once their back deck, overlooking the bay. We spoke just a few weeks ago about another garden inspection in June... we will miss his visits dearly. Rest In Peace now that you are together again dear friends.
