Passed peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2023, in his 84th year, surrounded by the love of his family, at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington. Dearly beloved husband of Pam and treasured dad to Debbie, Barb, and Lesley. He was the proud and precious papa to Brianna (David) Viveros, Shane O'Reilly and Jaiden O'Reilly. Born in Winnipeg to Ernest and Mary Butler and sister to Charlotte (Don) Gragg, John grew up in Montreal and graduated from McGill University with an Electrical Engineering MBA degree. He had a 41-year career with Bailey Controls/ABB and was a member of Canadian Boiler Society. He loved his tennis and friends at Tyandaga Tennis Club and was a long-time member of Wellington Square United Church. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Monday, February 27 from 12 p.m., until the time of the Service of Remembrance in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. We would welcome any stories or remembrances of John to share at the service.
