John KINCH Obituary

It is my unfortunate responsibility to announce the passing of my brother John on Friday, December 23, 2022. John fought the good fight as he always would but lost out to Esophageal Cancer. We were blessed that he was surrounded by his two loving children. John was born on Dec 20, 1954, in Hamilton to his parents, Jim and Ellen Kinch. (nee McKean) He is survived by his children, Jimmy Kinch (wife Holly Welsh) and his daughter Stephanie Konesky (husband Neal). His special grandchildren Riley and Connor Kinch and Carter and Harper Konesky. He is also survived by the mother of his children Rhonda Rohan Kinch and his brother Thom (wife Jackie) Kinch as well as nephew Rob Kinch (wife Erin), niece Dawne Breckon (husband John) and his wife Karen. John was an exceptional athlete and excelled in Baseball and Football. Growing up on the Dead-End part of Adeline Avenue you could find him at Mahoney Park most days in the summer and Parkdale Rink in the winter. He became a gifted running back at Sir Winston Churchill and Laurier High Schools. This led to a scholarship to Youngstown State University where he broke rushing records and was enshrined into the YSU Football Hall of Fame. From there he had a five-year career in the CFL. Playing for the Ticats, Argos and Sask Roughriders. After his playing career was over, John utilized his Criminal Justice Degree and worked with youth in Canada and then in Northeast Ohio. He also began coaching various sports in youth, high school, and college leagues. He was a beloved coach to the young people and helped guide many an athlete on the road to bettering themselves. John will now join our Mum and Dad in heaven and all of the family members who have passed before him. I'll see you again baby brother at "The Bridge of Sighs".

I am saddened to hear about John´s passing. I was one of his teammates at YSU and I never met a more competitive athlete then John. It was pure joy to watch Dave Garden and John blast their way down the field knocking over our opponents. I looked up to those guys. They´re probably throwing a ball around to each other now.

So sorry for the families loss.
John and I roomed and played together at Youngstown State. Our meetings since then were few, but the laughter was always there. He was a dedicated team mate who never surrendered. Missing from the obit was his Foosball tenacity, that helped pay for many beverages back in the day we had limited funds.
Rest in Peace, Kincher!
You will be missed.

Huge message of sympathy for the family in the passing of one of our generation. Knew him and met him a few times, but so long ago, and we went separate ways.

What a beautiful tribute you have written Karen to the love of your life. John certainly sounded like quite a remarkable person. Nothing I can say will take away the pain you're enduring right now. Though please know of how many kids and families you have helped thrive and grow, including my own. I shall be ever grateful for the rest of my life, because of how hard you fought for us. I hope in days ahead you'll find some solace.

So very sorry to hear of John's passing. We were neighbours for many years as our Hart family home on Ivon Avenue and the Kinch family home on Adeline were separated merely by a fence which both families jumped regularly to fetch pucks, balls etc. and/or take a short cut. We went to Sir Winston Churchill together and followed John's athletic career with great pride. Our sincere condolences to your family. I had the chance to speak with John at the SWC 50th reunion.

John was a positive and loving presence during family visits. We always looked forward to spending time with him and always knew he would share an enthusiastic story about Canada! Most important to us, was the love he showed my daugher and our sister, Karen. He was great in every sense of the word and admired greatly by us. In thanksgiving for the time we had with John, our prayers continue as God guides John to his eternal rest.

Sending my condolences to the entire Kinch family and friends. I worked with John at Lake County Juvenile Detention Center. We became fast friends as he became a bit of a mentor for me. He pushed me to do my best, and of course, get and stay in shape! We played many rounds of golf, shared a few thousand hot wings and beers at McTaggart´s and uncountable laughs. He had a life spirit about him that just lifted those around him. Prayers going up for John. To Jimmy and Stephanie, please take solace knowing your Dad is in a far more glorious place than we could ever imagine. Rest easy my friend.

My condolences in the passing of John. While I didn't know him well, he was always very kind and soft spoken. His concern for children, his structure, empathy and confidence was a great asset to the children of Lake Co. I recall one child, in particular, that he was able to see a need and help her find her confidence & self-esteem. My condolences to his family, facing such heartache in his passing. My prayers to you all.

Dear Judge, I am truly saddened and heartbroken to hear the news of John. I first met Jan when I started working at juvenile Court and he was always such a good friend to me at juvenile Court. I leaned on his shoulders many times. And I think he leaned on mine too. My prayers are with you. I trust in the Lord, and I know he is there with God in heaven.
If you need me, please call, and I sincerely mean that!
