John MANTLE Obituary

John Fleming Parkes Mantle O.L.S. (Retired), beloved husband, father and grandad, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 in his 90th year. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol, daughter Janis and husband Goran, daughter Denise and husband Russell and grandson Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Isobel Mantle, and his sister, Jane Mantle. John was born and raised in Grimsby and grew up on the family's fruit farm, Inchyra. John graduated from high school in 1950. He entered Queen's University in 1952 to study Engineering before joining the Ministry of Transportation and Communication in 1957. He worked for the MTC surveying the limits of a Secondary Road in Northern Ontario and articled with the MTC for his Ontario Land Surveyor degree. He ultimately acquired his OLS designation in 1962 and a year later began working for Kerry T. Howe Niagara Limited in St. Catharines. John managed the surveying group for almost 30 years and then continued his own private practice until 2006. John was an avid golfer and maintained long term memberships at Twenty Valley Golf & Country Club and Lookout Point Country Club. He also loved tending to his home lawn and vegetable gardens. A private family service will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. We have such lovely memories of time spent with John and Carol in Spain and Corsica. The holidays seem quite recent but it's been 20 years. Condolences to all of the family.
