John Ridge Obituary

Peacefully at home with his family at age 96. Dr. Jack, or Doc Ridge as he was known to so many, was a true country doctor, serving the communities of Mount Hope and Binbrook along with his late father and brother, Drs. William Ridge and Robert Ridge. He attended Caledonia High School and Graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1949. Jack enjoyed his favourite pastimes of flying, fishing and football. He was a long-time member and supporter of the Glanford Curling Club. Additionally, he contributed to universities, hospitals, and local charities. He was a member of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, the RCAF Association 447 Wing, Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association. He began flying in 1941 and flew his beloved 1968 Piper Tri-Pacer until age 84. In 1967 he was awarded the most proficient and gentlemanly pilot to graduate from Peninsula Air Service. Through his long career and hobbies he met lifelong friends and the family wishes to thank them and his Mount Hope neighbours for their thoughtfulness this past year. Jack is survived by his wife Corinne (predeceased by his first wife Norma) his son Douglas Ridge (Linda), daughter Donna Danks (Ron deceased) and son Gregory Ridge. Proud Grandfather of Jennifer Ridge, J'aime Ridge (James Albert), Ryan Danks (Carrera), Kaillie Danks Lout (Brandon), and Evan Danks. Great-grandfather to Abby and Cora Danks and Devon Lout. Jack's extended family including Corinne's daughters Shirley Vedan (Bob), Ronna Yallup and son Bruce Yallup deceased (Nancy deceased). Jack's family wishes to thank Corinne for her dedication and devotion to Jack over the years and especially during this past year. Jack's family will be forever grateful to the many healthcare professionals who worked tirelessly these past months. Many thanks to Stay At Home Nursing, Sharon, Gabriel and especially Nurse Bonni, whose kind and compassionate care reassured the family and enabled Jack to remain in his home as he wished. There aren't enough words to express our gratitude. At Jack's request, there will be no visitation or funeral; a private family service will be held. Those wishing to donate in Jack's memory may do so to Christian Horizons, a non- profit supported living organization; Hamilton/Burlington SPCA or Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Jack's wit, intelligence, analytical approach and passions contributed to an amazing life. He will be remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

Beginning my life with Dr. Wray Ridge, I was a patient of Dr. Jack's for many years as was our entire family. He was a good friend to my parents and took my dad for the occasional flight at Mt.
Hope.
Dr. Jack was a fine physician and a visit to his office may also include good advice as well as prescriptions.
A true country gentleman.
