Joseph BORSELLINO Obituary

May 26, 1922 - February 21, 2022

With deep sadness and profound gratitude for a life so well lived, we announce the passing of Joseph in his 100th year. At once the strongest and gentlest of all men, he was the beloved husband, best friend and soulmate of Anne (Pendzay) for 77 years. He was the deeply loved father of David (Donna), Sam (Oksana), Joe (Corinne) and Nanette (John Hynes). He was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer and his son Chris. He was also loved and will be fondly remembered by Maxine. Joe was a doting grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Rose Bruzzese and Narda Del Col and his brother Sam. His cherished friends from all walks of life are far too numerous to mention but are sprinkled with childhood compadres, navy comrades, HSR colleagues and five and ten pin bowling aficionados. Joe was a proud WWII veteran and at 20 years of age, volunteered his services to the Royal Canadian Navy for the duration of the war where he served on the HMCS Medicine Hat J-256, the Cape Breton K-350 and the St. Pierre K-680. He was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion and the Halton Naval Veterans Association. After the war, Joe embarked on a long and rewarding career at the Hamilton Street Railway where he began as a street car driver and became a bus driver, a driver trainer, an inspector, a supervisor and finally retired from the scheduling offices. Joe was most proud of his family. He was well known for his giant bear hugs, his firm handshake and his whistle which could summon his children from blocks away. His lasting legacy however, will be the love and devotion he had for his wife, Anne. Their love story has been an inspiration to all who knew them and we will continue to strive to live by his example. A private family visitation and service will be held on Monday, February 28th at 1 pm at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave). Upon invitation, RSVP in advance is required for both the visitation and service separately at www.dermodys.com or by phoning 905-388-4141. Masks and social distancing are mandatory. In memory of Joe, donations may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund or a charity of your choice.

A truly remarkable man, whom both I and my late father Steve had the good fortune to work along side during our tenure at the HSR. Goodbye Joe, may the allys in heaven always give you a strike

My father, Alfie Borsellino, Jr., always called cousin Joe "Joe Streetcar". Dad had the greatest respect and love for Joe. Never a harsh word was spoken about him. I believe we've lost a giant....Sincerest condolences. Your cousin Lisa
