Passed away peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital at the age of 93. Loving husband of Zora for 70 years. Devoted father of Mary (Mladen) Sokolov and Ann Drazenovich. Cherished Dida of Shamel, Mark (Jasmina) Sokolov, Christina (Rob) Glazer and great-grandfather to Marko and Nicholaus Sokolov and Valentina Glazer. Josip is predeceased by his parents Mile and Mande and his in-laws Josip and Tonka Perkovic. Brother in law to the late Ivan (Marija) Mesic and the late Vlado Perkovic. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews Mary Ann (Tihomir) Sertic, Mike (Daniella) Mesic and family, Tom Perkovic and Vlado (Molly) Perkovic and family. Kum and Kuma Mila and Ankica Boric and family, the late Toma (Milka) Mesic and family. Born in Lika Croatia, Josip came to Canada in 1958, worked in Timmins Mines and migrated to Hamilton in 1968, worked at Stelco for 25 years. He was a hardworking Lican and enjoyed spending time with his family, good food and wine. He will be sadly missed by all. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, July 21 from 4-8 p.m. with Prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church, 1883 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. Interment Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. Donations may be made to Holy Cross Church.
