Joseph MATICH Obituary

After the fight of his life for the past two years, Joe passed away peacefully at Carpenter Hospice the morning of January 4, 2022, four days shy of his 85th birthday. Loving husband of 60 years to Anne Matich, devoted father to Kelly, Jo-Anne and Michael and proud, Super Grandfather of Braden. Joe will also be dearly missed by John, Linda and Mary Sikich. He is predeceased by Joe Sikich.

Joe was born to Anka and Mike Matich on January 8, 1937 in Schumacher, Ontario. He graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and was a career metallurgist at Stelco Research for 30 years, as well as a small business owner.

Joe was an honourable, determined, hardworking and kind gentleman who took pride in his Croatian heritage, his family and his passion: golf. Joe had two hole in ones in his lifetime. We are sure he's half way through a good round of golf right now!

The family would like to thank (beyond words) the team of nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital Oncology Dept. Joe loved each and every one of you. Carpenter House Hospice also deserves a special thanks. What an outstanding facility and staff. We are so grateful for your care, kindness and compassion not only towards Joe, but to his entire family. Thank you to Dr. Amanda Jerome for your diligence and kindness.

Donations to the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, ON would be appreciated. Cremation and a private family service will take place. We hope to honour Joe with a celebration of his life this summer.
