Kelly Ponce Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Kelly Lynn Ponce (Smith) at the Hamilton General Hospital on January 22, 2023.

Survived by loving husband Carlos Ponce, mother Linda Smith, (late father Larry Smith), sister Kerry Simpson, niece and nephew Jamie and Dominic, mother and father in law Tito and Pilar Ponce, and brother in law Rob (Susan). Kelly will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins (especially Shelli Morris of Utah), friends and colleagues.

Kelly was born in Sarnia, Ontario on March 4, 1970. She attended Northern High School and later graduated from Conestoga College in Kitchener. After meeting her soulmate Carlos, they married and started their life in Burlington, Ontario. They enjoyed every moment together and every adventure they took. He was the love of her life. They were married for almost 29 years. She was a very active and devoted employee of Halton District School Board (Burlington Central High School), as senior secretary. Kelly was known for her organizational skills, strong work ethic, and problem solving abilities. She served several years as a union representative and touched the lives of many students and colleagues.

She lived life to the fullest. Her family and friends were extremely important to her and she was there for everyone. She loved movies and never missed the Oscars. She believed in many causes and gave blood when she could. She always wanted to be an organ donor and got her wish; as some lucky person now has her eyes. Kelly was a Royal Family (especially the Queen) enthusiast. She loved her daily walks to school, and scooter rides and adventures to Niagara on the Lake and Botanical Gardens with Carlos. She loved to connect with friends and family through Instagram and Facebook and never missed wishing her contacts happy birthdays or happy holidays. Her selfies kept everyone in the loop.

Kelly will be remembered for her powerful ability to love and give to others, her beautiful smile that could light up your soul, and her contagious laugh. She was passionate about everything she believed in and adored her niece and nephew as her own. She fiercely defended all that she loved.

She was a regular at Firenzi's Pizza each time she visited Sarnia. Wine and buttermilk were her favourite drinks as well as anything that her chef Carlos cooked or baked for her.

Cremation has taken place as per her request. There will be a memorial in Burlington in the summer to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kelly's memory may be made to Burlington Humane Society; as Kelly was a lover of animals.

I was so sad to hear about Kelly's passing. I worked with her for years at Lester B Pearson. She was so friendly and kind. She spoke of her family often and would always share Charlos' baking.
