Lawrence CARROZZA Obituary

(1934-2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Lawrence (Lawrie) on September 8, 2022. Lawrie grew up in East York, the cherished son of Lena and Giovanni (John). Lawrie was the devoted husband to the late Dawn (Heidman) for 63 years of marriage. Proud Dad of Cheryl and Tom. Wonderful Grandpa to Melissa and Annette and Great-Grandpa to August and Iverson. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Jim (Terry), Mimi (Gord), Laura (Steve, both deceased) and Tony (Irene - predeceased). Adored Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Lawrence worked for Lafarge Canada, working his way to a managerial position, demonstrating excellent leadership and compassion to all that crossed his path. He was an active member in Wesley United Church (Buckhorn, Ontario) and gave freely of his time to help others. Lawrie loved to design and build homes and furniture, spend time with his dog, garden and was a talented clarinet player in the New Horizon Band (Peterborough, Ontario). The family would especially like to thank Idlewyld Nursing Home for their exceptional compassion and care of our Dad over the past four years. Dad's award-winning smile and sense of humour will greatly be missed by his family and friends. We will celebrate Lawrie's life with a graveside service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1895 Main St. West, Hamilton on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home, Ancaster Chapel, 378 Wilson Street East, Ancaster, L9G 2C2. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to The Alzheimer's Society or Humane Society.

Members of Peterborough New Horizons Bands have fond memories of playing with Lawrie, especially in the FUNdamentals ensemble. There were lots of laughter and good times. We've missed him since he moved away.

My heartfelt condolences to Tom, Cheryl and their families on the passing of their father Lawrie. What a great guy. I had the pleasure of working with him at Standard Slag (now Lafarge Slag) in the early 90s. Lawrie had a special way of relating to people, and his humour made the office a great place to be. My wife used to marvel at how I was always happy going to work, and he was a big part of that. The memories are great, and ones I'll cherish from what was likely the most enjoyable part of my career. He'll certainly be missed.
