Leila SLATER Obituary

March 1927 - March 2021 While being serenaded by her son and daughter-in-law on piano and flute, Joyce made her transition on the eve of March 5, 2021, just ten days shy of her 94th birthday. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Samuel John "Jack" Slater, Joyce lives on in the hearts of her devoted and only son, Grant (Kimberly Parry), her grandsons Dan (Mercedes) and Kevin (Charity), and their mother, Dianne Davies. Joyce was overjoyed by the recent reunion with her nephew Rick (Pat) Whorwood, and niece, Janice Whorwood. Born to William and Ivy (nee Williams) Whorwood in Hamilton, Ontario, Joyce had the magnetism of a movie star, lighting up every room she entered. Taking her opera and dance talents to the stage, it was while singing in a band that she met fellow musician, Jack, who soon became her husband. When Grant started high school, Joyce became the Library Assistant at Glendale Secondary School, where her uplifting and encouraging manner led to her immediate and long-lasting popularity with the students. In her retirement years, she and Jack enjoyed extensive trips to Florida and spent endless summer days on their boat. Joyce will be remembered for her embracing heart, vibrant spirit, and sense of humour... including many Shenanigans, as confirmed by her cherished best friend, Doreen Briggs. Many thanks to the staff at Cooksville Care Centre for the compassionate care Joyce received over the years - with special gratitude extended to Shak and to our dear friend, Jhumar Reyes, who we consider family. A graveside ceremony has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In honour of Joyce's good cheer and giving heart, all are invited to engage in much laughter and random acts of kindness. On-line condolences are welcome at www.dbrobinson.com
