March 28, 1934 - January 15, 2023
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Leo van Rooy at Silverthorn Care Community on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in his 89th year. Leo will be lovingly remembered by his cherished wife of almost 60 years, Joan (nee Muise); and his children Lisa and Suzanne (Andrew Bergstrom). He was a beloved Opa to grandchildren Kyle and Kristen MacPherson, who were his pride and joy. Leo is also survived by his brother Jan, nieces and nephew in Sweden. Leo immigrated from Holland to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1958, proud to become a Canadian citizen in 1966. After meeting Joan, they settled in Ontario, making Burlington their home for over 20 years. After retiring for 10 years in their beloved Nova Scotia, they moved back to Ontario to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Leo was a passionate gardener, loved nature and being near the ocean, able to enjoy many years in both Florida and Nova Scotia. An old school gentleman, Leo touched everyone who knew him with his kind and generous soul and will be greatly missed. Leo is in the care of Dignity Memorial at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre in Kitchener. Cremation will take place and a private celebration of life will be held in the future. In memoriam, donations made to Covenant House Toronto or a Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated by the family.
