Linda passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022. She was born in Toronto on December 16, 1940, to Clare Haley Vinnels and Edith Rogers Cook. She grew up in both Hamilton and Toronto.
At the age of 14, Linda started her library career as a student page at the Riverdale branch of the Toronto Public Library. Her pay was 43.16 cents an hour.
Linda pursued her library degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she met David, who followed her back to Ontario! They were married on August 29, 1964.
Linda worked at the unique Boys and Girls House, part of the Toronto Public Library system, and later for 20 years at Information Services at the Burlington Public Library. After retiring, Linda volunteered with the Visiting Library Service for a further ten years.
Linda and David have two wonderful children, Cam (Clare) and Ellen (Dan), and have been blessed with a remarkable granddaughter Keira and a delightful grandson Brenden. Our children have been our strength and support as we moved from our home of fifty years.
After Linda was diagnosed with ALS, the continued help and support from friends, neighbours, and one special cousin has been incredible. Everyone has been so kind at keeping in touch with phone calls, emails, and visits. In addition, we were so appreciative of the dinners and treats everyone so generously brought us. We want to thank them for their thoughtfulness and kindness to both of us.
We've been fortunate to enjoy all that Burlington has to offer for over 50 years. If you would like to make a donation in Linda's memory, we ask that you make it to a local charity such as Food For Life or Burlington Green.
Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, November 24 from 3 – 5 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m.
