Lionel GAGNON Obituary

On the morning of September 18, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones, Lionel Joseph Wilfrid Gagnon, 71 years of age, was called home to "meet God" after having bravely and humbly fought a long and arduous battle with cancer.
Lionel was predeceased by his parents Mathias and Irène (née Poiron) Gagnon. He is survived by Yvette (née Fluet) his beloved wife of nearly 52 years and by their four cherished children: Paul (Carolyne Gauthier), Rennée (Stephen Cady), Daneige (Jeffrey Casciato) and Julie (Chad Nock). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud; as well as one brother: Charles (Pauline Roy) and five sisters: Rolande (Louis Sibileau), Thérèse Gagnon, Claudette (Fred Lavigne), Louise Gagnon, and Diane (André Thériault), and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Lionel will long be remembered by his community, friends and family as an example of love, strength, loyalty, fortitude, compassion, charity and joy. He was a constant and reliable resource for us growing up and to-this-day our go-to for practical advice, clear thinking and a helping hand. Rest in peace, "chéri, dad, pépère, chief, DaBoss". Visitation will be held on Friday, September 24th, from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m., at Hyde & Mott Chapel of R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes, 60 Main St. S, Hagersville, ON, N0A 1H0. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Vincent D'Souza O.C.D. and livestreamed, on September 25th, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 94 Main St. S., Hagersville, ON, N0A 1H0. Interment will take place following the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 620 Governors Rd. E, Paris, ON, N3L 3E1. A small reception will follow in Brantford at an address to be communicated. We are very grateful to all the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who ministered to him and cared for him and for his family throughout his illness.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juravinski Cancer Centre, or to the Juravinski Urology Department or to the West Haldimand General Hospital.
A link to the Livestreamed Mass will be provided by the family on or before Friday morning. www.rhbanderson.com
