Loretta NOTT Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Loretta Florence Nott (née Nardella) on December 31, 2022. Loving wife of the late George (Nott). Leaves her adored children Gregory (Sima) of Toronto, Geoffrey (Satoko) of Calgary and Caroline of Ottawa, as well as her seven beloved grandchildren Sahra, Dev, and Niam, Daniel and Olivia, and Edward and Andrew (and their father James). She will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends. Born in Hamilton on April 28, 1940, Loretta completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Assumption University, Windsor. She went on to become a secondary science teacher at Bishop Ryan in Hamilton, before meeting and marrying George Nott in 1970. Together they moved to Brockville, where Loretta taught elementary school at St. Mary and St. John Bosco while raising her three children, who filled her with great pride. Loretta displayed an unrelenting optimism in the face of challenges, including supporting her husband George through his illness and after his passing in 2009, as well as her own Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis in 2011. She will be lovingly remembered for her fighting spirit, her gratitude for her amazing doctors and her humour and courage throughout her journey. A lifelong love of learning and a keen interest in people and cultures led her to travel the world, with trips to Thailand, Japan, Italy and Australia. Closer to home, Loretta was a proud resident of Brockville, and enjoyed walking along the St Lawrence with George, or sitting out along the river. She loved spending time with friends and trying new exercise classes or exotic cuisines. Loretta also had a love of reading and a green thumb, her garden benefiting from her nurturing nature. She participated in a long and fulfilling life founded on her compassion and strong Catholic faith. She had a particular devotion to St. Theresa, the Little Flower, finding comfort and guidance in her prayers. Family and friends may call at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville, on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be Celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Brockville, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow. In memory of Loretta donations to the Lung Cancer Canada would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Messages of condolence may be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
