Mabel Burns Obituary

After a courageous battle with COVID 19, Mabel lost the battle on December 13, 2020 at Grace Villa Nursing Home in her 100th year. Beloved wife for 66 years to the late Bob Burns. Loving mother of Robert (Robin), and Janet. Dear grandma of Christy-Anne and Andrea (Miles). Great grandmother of Kaden, Chase, Colton and Mya. Mabel is survived by nieces Tammy, Dianne, Betty, Janice and nephew Gary. Mabel will be lovingly remembered for her love for her family and her church family. She spent her career as a Registered Nurse and Director of Planned Parenthood. Her love of children and young people was always a priority. Her glass was always half full and she made others feel blessed for each day life offered. Due to COVID restrictions, a private ceremony will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to City Kidz or the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA would be appreciated by her family. Mabel's family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Grace Villa for their tender and loving care of her. www.dermodys.com

Janet, Rob and family: Sending my deepest sympathies to you all at the passing of your Mom. Being one of your childhood sidekicks, I remember your Mom as a very smart, kind, and loving person, although we pushed the limits with some of our antics. Hopefully in time your grief will lessen and be replaced with loving memories of her. Your friend, Carolyn Parent (DeLullo)

My sincere condolences to Mabel’s family. Mabel was dedicated to her work for Planned Parenthood and to her staff she was like a Mother hen. I remember when we went to Dr. Bagshaw’s 100th birthday celebration. How wonderful for Mabel to have almost made the same milestone and so tragic to have lost that life to Covid-19 like so many others. Mabel was always very good to me as one of her nurses and I loved my work at the clinic with her and all the staff. The other day I was baking squares with a recipe from Jean Martin. Such fond memories. Mabel had the staff to her house at Christmas for a potluck dinner and evening and we still continue this tradition with many of the former staff. She made our work like a home and we are like family. I would love to hear from you, Janet.
