Maria Sardo Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet Mom, Nonna and Bisnonna in her 95th year. Graceful till the end with family by her side we said our goodbyes on Thursday, July 16th at 10:15 p.m. She was called into the arms of our Lord and to be reunited with her loving husband Nono who passed away in 2018. Maria was born in Cianciana, Italy on Feb 10th 1927, she came to Canada on May 29, 1948. She married Onofrio (Nono) December 30, 1950 and their happy and blessed, friend and family-oriented story began! Mom will be deeply missed by her children Joe and Corey, Janet and Gary, Peter and Mina. Nonna was a big part in the lives of her Grandchildren Ryan, Lisa and Jake, Dana and Paul, Joseph, Philip and Maddie and Michael and Megan. She was the proudest Bisnonna to Pavlos, Ava and little baby Mila who sadly she didn't get to meet. She will be greeted with open arms by her many family members and friends gone before her. Zia Maria leaves behind many nieces, nephews, God-children, dear friends and relatives here and in Italy that will miss her dearly. She was fortunate to have so many people that loved her. Mom has touched many lives and all who knew her know that family and friends, with lots of good food to share meant everything to her and she treated each and every one with love and kindness. Maria will be remembered as a generous soul who until two years ago still volunteered at Ridgeview nursing home for many years. She was a CWL member for over 60 years and belonged to the Legion of Mary. Maria had a strong faith and devotion to God and Mary and for 55 years was part of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. We want to thank the PSW's, Nurses and Caregivers who prayed, sang and held her hand and for all their gentle and caring ways with Mom in her last few months, it is truly appreciated.
Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home (947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, 905-574-0405) on Tuesday, July 20 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass in honour of Maria will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church (63 Highway 20 East, Stoney Creek) on Wednesday, July 21 at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery (600 Spring Gardens Rd, Burlington).
