September 1932 - December 5, 2021
Having lived on three continents, Mark W.P. Cann witnessed the passing of one age and the birth of another, along with the changes that mark all of our lives to this day. He was born in Dalhousie, India, and grew up first in Kashmir then England, where he completed his schooling at Bradfield College, Berkshire, and Clare's College, Cambridge. In 1963 he moved to the U.S., conducting research at the IIT Research Institute (IITRI). He came to Canada in 1969 and worked until his retirement at the Centre for Research in Experimental Space Science (CRESS), York University, at the same time enthusiastically developing his long-standing love of the outdoors. He pursued his love of canoeing and hiking from his retirement home in the Haliburton Highlands. Mark will be missed by his children Rebecca (Janis Barlow), Mark, and Alexander, and his grandson Hugh. He will be remembered for his love of nature, books, and good food, as well as for his generosity and gentlemanly manner. Thank you to the many people who cared for him in recent years at the McMaster Family Practice, the Lincoln Medical Centre, The Jacob Senior Living and Carrington Place.
