Mary Frances was the only child of George and Sarah Dawson (nee Jenks). Her mother tragically died following her birth. Mary was, however, blessed to live in a large family including her grandparents, father and aunts and uncles during her early years. Growing up in such a warm, fun, and loving home developed her loving and caring manner. She was a welcoming and loyal person who always put her family first. For many years, with a young and growing family, she graciously hosted most family occasions with grandparents, aunts, and uncles, providing lasting memories. Graduating from Normal School in 1947, Mary taught primary grades at Hamilton schools before retiring to raise her family. Many of her fellow students at Normal School became her lifelong friends. Mary was married for over 62 years to her first love Robert (1925-2011). She and Bob lived in Hamilton and Burlington their entire lives. They raised their family in Burlington and enjoyed their summers at the cottages they built with their children. A lifelong learner, Mary graduated from McMaster University in Political Science at age 58. Her favourite past times were reading, drinking tea, and chatting with her friends and relatives. She excelled at all types of needlework. In retirement, Mary and Bob spent their winters in Florida and continued to travel. Still not afraid of new challenges she encouraged Bob to take a consulting assignment in Indonesia. While there, they both enjoyed the cultural experience of another part of the world. Mary was mother to Robert (Diana), Dave (Carole) and John (Susan) and a proud grandmother to Clinton (Jennifer), Katelyn (Philippe), Dane (Megan), Robert, Avard and William as well as a great grandmother to Finnley and Cayden; Freya and Margot, Zosia and Wyatt; George, Cora, and Nina. We are all thankful for the solid foundation she provided for our lives. A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers Peachy, Fely and Maureen, who became members of our family, and the staff at the Brant Centre who all contributed greatly to Mary's quality of life during her later years. We give thanks for a life well lived. A private family funeral has been held followed by internment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in Mary's memory to the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation or a
charity of your choice would be appreciated.
