Nancy Duern Obituary

On April 25, 2022 we lost a shining star when Nancy Duern passed away peacefully in her sleep. For 95 years she lived life to the fullest, inspiring her family and friends with her ability to carry on with determination, never once complaining when confronted with physical adversity and fiercely independent to the end. She was admired for her style, elegance and grace. Nancy's organizational skills, business sense and interior design expertise were apparent during her long career running Stewart Interiors with her beloved husband "Stewie". Always active, she was honoured last summer at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club for being the oldest member still actively golfing, having joined in 1964. In her late 80's she got back on her skis for "one last run" with her family at Holimont, where she was a lifelong member. Her social calendar was always full and she was a wonderful hostess. She will be forever missed by her devoted family, her son Greg (Carol), daughter Deborah (Ken), granddaughters Kendra (Josh), Jane (Paul), Kristen (Mark) and Jennifer (Marc). Nancy was thrilled to be a great grandmother to Thomas, Alex, Noelle, Simone and another granddaughter soon to be born. Her last few weeks were very full with her beloved sister Nora and amazing brother in law Bill staying with her and many other family members travelling to visit. We are very grateful to all her wonderful friends for their devoted friendship, particularly the "2 Helens". Greg will miss his dinner and golf buddy and Deb will never be able to read another book without wondering if Mom would have liked it. We are grateful to Dr. Sumanac, the Bayshore bandaging team and HCCSS as well as the wonderful staff at the Marlatt Funeral Home. A private family memorial has already taken place. If so inclined, memorial donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be welcomed.

Debbie and Greg
We were so sad to hear of your moms passing. I always thought your mom would live forever! We have such fond memories of a lifetime of friendship with your family. Your mom was the epitome of grace and elegance ! I am very fortunate to be the owner of several of your dad´s beautiful paintings and I treasure them.
Your mom (and dad) were such warm, friendly people who always took an interest in all of our lives. You were blessed to have your mom for so many wonderful years. The heartache of looking her will be immense but the memories of a life together will be comforting. We´re thinking of you and all your family.

Greg, Deb and all of the extended family. Grace, strength, kindness and never ending determination are the words that come to mind when I think of your Mom. She was a special lady and always held a special place in my parents hearts, as did Stewie. I feel blessed to still own several of your dad´s paintings as a way of remaining connected to the great memories of our times together at Holimont and HG&CC. We were spoiled by their presence. Condolences to all of you for your loss.

Nancy was a lovely lady. Like us, she and Stewart were original owners in Creekside. She was gracious and delightful. Her sense of fashion was outstanding and she always looked amazing. We will miss her greatly.

I remember the times our family saw her at Holimont skiing and up north at the cottages that my parents rented. She will be sadly missed. Condolences to Greg and Debra for your loss. May she Rest In Peace
