Nellie Emery Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie Jean Emery, in her 90th year at St. Peter's Hospital in the early morning hours of January 31, 2022 with family at her side. Nellie was pre-deceased by her loving husband Alfred (Fred) on February 6, 2008 and by her eldest daughter, Sandra Gray-Merkley (Donald) on March 28, 2016. She will forever live on in the hearts and memories of her remaining children - Nancy Somers, Tim Emery (Deb. deceased 2004) and Donna Emery. Nellie was called Gramma, Clang-Clang, Mere and Gee-Gee by her seven grand-children and twelve great-grandchildren that she loved and adored. Born to Cecil (Oscar) and Ruth Taylor on April 28, 1932 on the Manitoulin Island. Nellie and Fred met in Sudbury, married in 1950 and with their children moved to Hamilton in the mid sixties. She was a long time employee of Zellers. Nellie enjoyed summers at the trailer in Mattawa, renewing friendships and hosting family, especially the children. The family would like to express special thanks to our neighbours, especially the McNally's for their assistance and friendship, and to Pat Merritt for keeping mom entertained and her spirits up. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or simply doing an act of kindness for someone else would be appreciated. Please also take a moment to leave an online condolence at lgwallace.ca.

We offer our sincere condolences to all the family. Losing a parent leaves such a hole in one´s heart - someone who loved us no matter what. Someone who gave us their all. May we cherish their memories. May they give us comfort and strength to carry on because that is what they would wish.
I remember the last time we saw Nellie was in Mattawa at our daughter´s place. We were celebrating our parents 60th anniversary and Nellie was able to join us. She added a lot of joy and laughter to that occasion. Also remember going out for fish and chips at a restaurant there too. Cade do you remember that. There was a glass of water spilled and you were scolded by grandma because you laughed, but we all laughed. I guess she thought an apology should have been made but it was just an accident. It was just funny how quickly Ernie jumped up to avoid getting wet.
Many happy memories of us kids visiting back and forth.
May God comfort you at this difficult time.
