Norma Doane Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Norma Edith Doane announce her passing
in Shelburne, Nova Scotia.
Survived by husband of 64 years, Harold Bowman, sons Harold Philip and Mark John, daughter-in-law JaneAnn Marie (grandson Wyatt John), and daughter Sherry Lynn (Glenn P Reed) Doane, all will
miss her so. Sister to David (Karen), James (Margaret) and Ronald (Marilyn) Langley, and
half-sister to Nancy (Steve) Turner, Noreen (David) Tellerd and Neil Langley. Sister-in-law to Grace (George) Jones, Shirley (Cecil) Stoddard, and
George (Anne) Doane.
An RNA for all of her adult life before retiring, Mom had resiliency like no other. Nicknamed Wonder Woman by retired family Dr Keeler, Norma fought various illnesses over many decades and bounced
back every time but this one, was once written up in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
Born to Edison Arthur Langley and Matilda ((Peggy) nee Smith) in Hamilton Ontario, Norma attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing before meeting her father Ed's redheaded apprentice, Harold, both smitten at first blush.
Married June 14, 1957, in Hamilton, Norma and Harold had three (amazing!) children, with the family living in Hamilton, Milton and Oakville
before moving back to Harold's childhood town of
Shelburne, Nova Scotia.
Norma worked at Hamilton's St Joseph's, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial and Shelburne's Roseway hospitals as well as Extendicare in Oakville, even
attending to a Royal in the 1950s. Over her almost five decades of nursing, Norma exemplified what caring for others truly was about. Married to a paramedic-turned -fire department man, her
legacy of giving to the community continues to be in the Doane blood. Mom loved family and social gatherings, gardening, baking, paper tole, card games, bingo and the slots, making friends wherever she went. Norma will be missed by many.
The family would like to express their gratitude to
Nova Scotia's EHS, as well as both Yarmouth Regional and Roseway hospitals' medical
staff for their compassion to Norma and her family.
A future, private family service will be held at Shelburne's Pine Grove Cemetery.
