Patricia MURPHY Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Patricia, on November 5, 2022, at Highgate Retirement Home in Ancaster at the age of 93. Patricia is forever reunited with the love of her life, her loving husband of 65 years, the late Gordon Murphy (2017). Cherished mother of Colleen (Steve), Sharon (Rob (d)Ted), Jim (Joanne), MaryEllen (Clement), Joe (Laurie) and Patti (Brian). Proud grandma of Jennifer (Ken), Ryan (Katie), Braydon (Jen), Melanie (Bryan), Shelley (Chris), Erin (Andrew), David (Adriana), Kaitlin, Mandy (John), Alyssa (d), Tammy (Phil), Kaleigh, Matthew (Kate), Kelly (Adam) and Lindsay (Chris). Loving G.G. to 21 great grandchildren. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister Ella, and several extended family members. Patricia was born in Ennismore, Ontario in 1929 living on the Scollard homestead until her family relocated to Bow Park Farm in Brantford in 1934. She was a "farm girl" through and through and had a lifelong passion for her vegetable and flower gardens. In 1950 Patricia graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Hamilton and embarked upon a 32-year nursing career with St. Joseph's Hospital. Mom worked in several different departments within the hospital but spent many years in ICU and Emergency. She was a strong, yet very caring 'task master' extremely dedicated to her nursing vocation, the epitome of a nursing professional. Mom met dad (a city boy) on a blind date and the two were married in 1951, welcoming six children. She would jokingly say, "I don't know what I would do without my children, but there were some days I wasn't sure what to do with them!!" Finding that balance between city and country life they moved to Ancaster to raise their family and remained in their home for 40 years. Mom took great pride in her family, loved large gatherings, and hosted many events. She loved her sports but there was no team as special as the 'fighting Irish' of Notre Dame College. When mom was no longer able to live on her own, she returned to Ancaster in 2019 to reside at Highgate Retirement Home. She loved to joke and interact with staff and when she moved to a 'higher care' floor she continued her wit on a daily basis. Many thanks to all Highgate staff, especially Mariola, Joanne, Arlene and Anette for your genuine warmth and dedication in making mom's daily routines so comfortable. We also want to thank the nurses and doctors from 6 Surgical and 2ALC at St. Joseph's Hospital for their wonderful care and attentiveness to mom's needs during her recent stay in hospital. A special mention must go to Dr. Ann Woods who not only supported mom but helped the entire family cope with her impending loss. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave. Hamilton) on Wednesday November 9, 2022, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered on Thursday November 10, 2022, at St. Ann Catholic Church (11 Wilson St. Ancaster) at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation in Patricia's name to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation or Good Shepherd would be greatly appreciated. For online condolences, please visit www.dermodys.com
