Peter DACH Obituary

Suddenly yet peacefully, Peter passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of 74. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Henry. He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Doreen. Devoted father of Matthew (Christina), Michael, Adam (Stephanie), and Mary (Tom) Barac. Proud Dido of Jonathan, Myles, Oriana, and Jasper. Peter will be greatly missed by his siblings, Elsie (Jim) Anderson, Jim (Dorothy), and Gwen (Rob) Gilhooly, sister-in-law Madeline (Dave) Danylewich, and brother-in-law Doug (Kelly) Kariam. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Peter was born and raised in Hamilton. A graduate of Central Collegiate Institute (1969), he went on to work at Dofasco as a metallurgical inspector, retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. Peter had enjoyed camping, fishing, cycling, curling, and golf. He was a skilled handyman, gardener, and cook. Peter had also devoted his time as a Scout leader, soccer and basketball coach, the latter earning him The Hamilton Spectator Community Service Award (1999). To those who knew him, he was a reflective, hardworking, witty, and wise man. Peter always looked forward to outings with his "cronies" and spending time with his adoring grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home (King and Kenilworth) on Saturday, April 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow. Thank you to the medical staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at Hamilton General Hospital for your compassion and support. To honour Peter, you may make a donation to Hamilton Food Share, Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, or a Charity of Your Choice. Thank you. Vichnaya pamyat.

Doreen and family,
My sincere and deepest condolences for your loss of our beloved Peter. I´ve known Peter for almost 60 years. We kinda grew up together as young teenagers working at Sam´s Fruit Market and as classmates at Central High School. That´s were our bond, as close friends, developed and grew. As we each went in different directions afterwards, we still kept our close friendship throughout our lives ongoing and nurturing. Pete, I loved you like a brother, your understanding, wise words of advice, kindness and generosity only skims the surface of the depths of your compassion and caring of your family and friends. Tearfully, it´s just "see ya later, Pete." Hugs, Dennis.

Doreen and family....please accept our deepest sympathies on the passing of Peter. There is nothing we can say to ease your pain now but know we remember him as a good man who adored his family and always a kind word and had that little smile when he spoke. Peter was always an upbeat guy and I always enjoyed our talks at work. We started about the same time in Metallurgy. He was a guy who made work a bit more fun. My condolences to his family.
