Peter REILLY Obituary

(Captain, Burlington Fire Department) Peacefully at his residence with his children at his side, on Saturday, February 27, 2021, Peter Reilly in his 60th year. Beloved Son of Vyvyan and Russell Reilly. Loving father of Shaughn, Kyra and Zack, Quinn, and Kael. Dear brother of Michael (Jane), Edwin (Jane), Matthew (Anne Marie), Therese (Tom) Kelly, and Patrick (Jennifer). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was a graduate of St. Thomas More High School, Hamilton and the University of Western Ontario, King's University College. He became a Firefighter with the Etobicoke Fire Department before joining the Burlington Fire Department in 1989, where over a 30 year service he rose to the rank of Captain in 2009, where he was highly respected by his peers. He dedicated many hours to volunteering with St. Joseph Catholic Church, Grimsby, McMaster Children's Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, Grimsby, coaching hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and football in the Grimsby area. One thing very evident in Peter's life was his devout Catholic Faith through which he derived much of his strength. A special mention to Fr. Rico Passero, and Lt. Col. Fr. Ed Jankowski of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Grimsby, for their friendship and spiritual guidance. This faith ingrained in him a peaceful kindness which he shared with all. The family is grateful for the care provided to Peter by St. Elizabeth Nurses, Dr. Sebastien Hotte and the Oncology Team at Juravinski Hospital. Regrettably, these condolences come late but I only found out by chance that Peter Reilly had passed away - a harsh blow to the Reilly family and the sad loss of a son, brother, a husband and a father of four. My connection to the Reilly family was through my time at what was then called St. Jerome's college. Mike was a former resident of that place in time. I still have good memories of Mike, Jane, Matthew and Mike's parents Russel and Vyvyan. A great down to earth family who were always fun to be around. I extend my sympathy to all of you who treasured their time with Peter and I hope that the good memories of your time with him will help to sustain you now.

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the entire Reilly family. I knew the Reilly's as a child, when they lived on South Oval, and I was flooded with memories of those years when I read the sad news of Peter's death in the recent King's alumni magazine.
