Raymond MODESKI Obituary

After a lengthy illness, it is with sadness that we share the loss of our brother, uncle, friend and spiritual leader, Reverend Monsignor Raymond Nicholas Modeski. Predeceased by his parents Victoria and Nicholas Modeski. He was brother to Lorraine, Patrick, and Faith, dear friend to Patty Alexander, and Reverend Monsignor Earl Talbot. Monsignor Ray loved life. He brought and shared laughter to everyone that he surrounded himself with and those that loved to surround him. He adored and was adored by his nieces, nephews and everyone's heart that he touched. Monsignor Ray loved his golf game, and made an annual pilgrimage to Florida in order to enjoy the sport. He spent fifty years in pastoral work, of which he was passionate and unparalleled. Ray was an inspiration to his parishioners through his endless acts of faith, work and devotion. He delivered his homilies with passion, insight and often with a modicum of humour. Monsignor Ray served as rector at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Hamilton, pastor at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Ancaster and pastor at St Patrick's Church in Burlington. He was a true spiritual leader of faith.
Monsignor Ray was loved and will be missed by everyone whose soul he touched.
Visitation will occur at St. Patrick's Church 196 Kenwood Ave. Burlington, on Sunday, December 18, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Vigil Service for the deceased at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, 714 King St. W., Hamilton on Monday, December 19th at 11 a.m. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Joseph Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family. www.dermodys.com

Father Ray we will miss you. I have the fondest memories of you when you were our priest at St. Ann"s in Ancaster.
Your sermons were phenominal and you always were able to help guide us in the right direction. I still remember your laugh and jokes and your zest for life.
Praying you are at peace with Our Father. God speed Father Ray!<3

When I introduced Father Ray as my sister´s brother, I received very bewildered expressions as you can imagine. My parents were the closest of friends to Father Ray´s parents and when his father passed Faith moved in with the Comeau family. My parents raised Faith and Raymond was family to us. Over the years he spent Sunday dinner at our house and up until his illness he invited us to his home (parish) every Christmas for a family luncheon. My own children grew up knowing Father Ray and looking forward to our annual gatherings where we sure to leave feeling full and tired after a fun game of floor hockey. Father Raymond was always the priest at our weddings and funerals and his sermons were the absolute best at both happy and sad events. He will be terribly missed by our family and his parishioners who loved him dearly. Condolences to the Modeski family.

I first met Fr. Ray as our chaplain at Bishop Mac HS in Guelph. His sense of humour and gentle, understanding nature made him unforgettable. We kept in touch over the years and he graciously travelled to officiate at my marriage and that of my daughter 25 years later. He was the kindest of pastors that knew how to relate to all ages. He made a lasting impression on so many lives. He leaves behind a great void but his suffering is over. Home in heaven in time for Christmas!

Fr Ray was a great blessing to my parents at St Ann´s. He buried my handicapped brother with reverence and dignity. His jokes brought joy to us while his strong faith shone brightly. Matt the Lord get him warmly I pray.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Monsignor Ray, my cousin. I feel for his siblings whom I enjoyed growing up with just 2 blocks away. He can now join his sweet loving parents & my sister Pat in heaven.

Monsignor Ray was an amazing person. He had a way of bringing positivity and laughter into a room, and into his homilies. We have fond memories of his visits to our family home. He also brought great comfort to our family during difficult times. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
