Richard HAINSWORTH Obituary

On Monday, September 5, 2022, Richard "Dick" passed away at the age of 91. He was born in Hamilton on February 11, 1931, to his parents Major Richard Adrian Hainsworth of the 83rd Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, and Alice Jackson (nee Campbell), who were both his conscience and his mentors throughout each of their long lives. Dick was predeceased by his wife Diane "Dee" Margaret Hainsworth (nee Falladown) in 2020. A loving and supportive father, he is dearly missed by his 3 children Jeffrey Hainsworth, Maureen Hainsworth and Lorna Hainsworth-Popper (Bob), and by his grandchildren Alexander, Samantha, Leah, Aaron (Sydney), Jesse (Nikki), and Jeremy. Dick is also fondly remembered by the extended Hainsworth family and his Falladown family -- Bob, Lynda and the happy host that gathered for countless celebrations and holiday meals. In his youth, Dick attended Burlington Central Highschool where he was a member of the 1948 Championship Senior football Team. After graduating from U of T in 1957, Dick lived and worked in Burlington as a pharmacist for 51 years, at first in his father's drug store at Brant and James, and the pharmacy at the Joseph Brant Hospital, followed by a prosperous career at his own store the Brant Arts Dispensary, from 1963-2008. He enjoyed great success as a pharmacist and business man, and was beloved by his customers and staff. The feeling was mutual - he loved going to the store and always treated the Brant Arts crew like his family, even after retirement up to the day he died. Richard shared a great love with his wife Diane, with whom he enjoyed 46 years of true partnership. Richard and Diane have left us with a legacy of giving, establishing a trust to continue philanthropic pursuits in the name of his family. We are all better people for having known Dick. We mourn his passing, but we also want to celebrate his life. A Visitation will be held for family and friends at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 12-1 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 17, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. As per Dick's wishes, private cremation and interment will follow. As an expression of sympathy, and lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Dick's generous nature, please consider a donation to Joseph Brant Hospital.

I had the great honour of working with Richard over the past two years. He wished to commemorate his late wife Dee with the planting of flowers, and the care of the gardens they both had enjoyed growing together. His kindness was immense. I looked forward to our visits every week, and enjoyed our chats. He had such great stories, and always showed so much passion, care, and advice in whatever we would discuss. I will remember my time with him always.

I worked with Dick as his assistant from the age of 17 until he retired. Dick was my mentor.....I admired and respected him always. He treated his staff as family and always stayed in touch over his retirement years. I feel I have lost an important family member. May God Bless him.
