Robert GASPARI Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Gaspari. After a brief illness, Bob passed away on the morning of October 30 at Juravinski Hospital. Predeceased by his father, Louis Gaspari (WWII), mother, Laura Anderson, stepfather, John Anderson and sister, Nancy Romanowski, Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Faye, sons Kyle and Ryan, brother, Jack Anderson and sister, Kathy Theroux. Born in Hamilton, Bob was proud to be from the Brightside neighbourhood and reminisced lovingly about his childhood with life-long friendships lasting up until his passing. Sandlot baseball and high school basketball were some of the most popular topics of discussion but any conversations of "the old neighbourhood" would always be welcome and were certain to ignite a nostalgic flame. Golf then entered Bob's life in young adulthood and although no course records were in his future, he would tell you that the friendships and memories that were seeded and grown on the golf course were some of his most cherished. Although, towards the end of his life he couldn't physically get out and play the game he loved, he spoke often of being out there "laughing with all the guys" and "shooting the breeze". Bob dedicated his working life to his hometown Hamilton Spectator for over 30 years before retiring in 1997. Bob's friends and family would like to give special thanks to all of the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Centre. The care that you provided was greatly appreciated by all of us and we sincerely thank you. After cremation a private service will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, we request donations to the Good Shepherd Hamilton and random acts of kindness towards others.

Faye Bob and i were close friends during our MANY years at Burlington Central. I just heard of his death today. I only saw him once in the last few years, when we played golf in Alliston. This such sad news.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing.
Bob was a first class man, always quick with a joke and a smile. He brightened up the room.

I really am not sure what to say. So very many memories. I am at a loss to think of what to say. He was Uncle Bob, he was always there through my life. I never could have imagined he would be gone so soon. My heart is seriously torn apart. I am so sorry Aunty Faye, Kyle, and Ry. There will never be another man like him. And will live on in everyones hearts that he has blessed by being in their lives.
Lots of love
Miss all of you very much.

How was I to know when, many years ago, I walked into the Burlington Nevada Bob's to purchase my first half decent set of golf clubs that I would deal with a salesperson that over the years I would end up golfing with, including some crazy fun road trips up north and to South Carolina. Bob was such a great guy with a wonderful sense of humour. He was a very easy person to get along with and even total strangers were very comfortable having conversations with him. He made people feel at ease.

Keep hitting them down the middle Bob.

I'm so sorry to hear of Bob's death. He was a great friend in our younger days in Burlington - so warm and good-hearted and funny with me and so many others. Some years ago he visited us in Calgary and we played golf at Kananaskis in the mountains - the usual 18 holes of misadventure, with great scenery. Deepest condolences to Faye and family from me and my wife, Sydney

Although we worked in different departments, I got to know Bob from our many years at The Spectator, including a fun trip to Disney World with the Spec carriers in the mid-'70s. A true gentleman who was always smiling and a great guy to know. I hope the end was peaceful.
