Robert WADE Obituary

1933 - 2023
With sadness, the family of Bob Wade announces his peaceful passing at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in his 90th year. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ida (Blanchard) Wade. May 5th was their 67th wedding anniversary. Bob was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His three daughters, Heather (Dieter) Henke, Robin (Randall) Hicks, and Lisa (Jeff) Muir; his six grandchildren who all knew him as Grandpa Bobby; Andrea (Justin) Erratt, Michelle (Antoine) Dabrowski, Carolyn Hicks, Marcus Henke, Aidan Muir (Erin-Louise), and Colin Muir (Morgyn); and two great-grandchildren, Florian Dabrowski and Chloe Erratt. Bob was born in London, Ontario, the eldest son of the late John and Audrey (Speiran) Wade. He is survived by two brothers, Terry Wade (Margaret) of London, and John (Maureen) Wade of Melfort, Saskatchewan.

Bob enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family. He will be dearly missed by the Blanchard family - Marg and Bob Noble, Floyd and Alice Blanchard, Harold and Kathy Blanchard, Lynda and Bob VanDoorselaer, Gary and Susan Blanchard. Bob is survived by many Wade and Blanchard nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 1944, Bob's family moved to Crediton, Ontario when his father was posted to Centralia Air Station. Bob attended Exeter District High School where he met Ida. He was an avid sportsman playing on many high school teams and was the commanding officer of his school's army cadet corps. Bob's career with London Life Insurance Company began in 1953 until his retirement in 1991. In 1960, he was transferred to the Hamilton Mortgage Office where he became Manager of Property Investments.

Bob served in many business organizations: Course Instructor at Mohawk College for the Hamilton Real Estate Board, President of the Ontario Association of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and as its National President, and President of Tarion, the New Home Warranty Board.

In 1978, Bob was elected Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor for the Town of Ancaster. He became Mayor of the Town of Ancaster in 1984 until 1999, when he was elected Mayor of the newly amalgamated City of Hamilton, serving in this role from 2000 until 2003. Bob served on community organizations in the region including the Catholic Children's Aid Society for 25 years.

He was a member of the Ancaster Agricultural Society, the Ancaster Horticultural Society, the Ancaster Historical Society, the Ancaster Probus Club, Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre, Dundas Granite Curling Club, Dundas Rotary Club, and Theatre Ancaster.

Ryerson United in Ancaster was Bob's church for over 50 years where he served in many roles including Chair of the Board of Trustees. Bob was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Ancaster Rotary Club, and proudly received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award.

For many years, Bob and his family cherished time with friends and family camping across North America and spending summers at Sauble Beach on Lake Huron.

A Private, Family Interment has taken place in Exeter. A "TIME OF REMEMBRANCE" will be held in the "ANCASTER ROTARY CENTRE" AUDITORIUM at the "ROBERT E. WADE PARK" on Thursday, June 1, 2023, with VISITATION from 1-3 p.m. followed by the Service at 3 p.m.

Thank you to The Meadows LTC, Ancaster, and to St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton for Bob's wonderful care. We extend special thanks to Jim Panoff of Dodsworth & Brown Ancaster Chapel, Rev Jeff Chalmers and Rev Bert Radford of Ryerson United Church. My deepest condolences to Ida and family. Bob wade had the ability to navigate stormy waters with kindness and grace and elicited respect from all despite political differences. As former Curator of Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum I witnessed and experienced firsthand his ardent support for his community. I will always remember him for his dignity and humanity. He will be missed!
