Roland Endert Obituary

Roland Martin Endert, lovingly known as Rollie, passed away with the comfort of family by his side on June 28, 2021. He spent the last few years at Resthaven Lodge, thus fulfilling his desire to be both back on Vancouver Island and close to the ocean during the twilight of his life.

Roland will be remembered by his son, Murray and family, Jillien, Brayden and Brynlee of Comox; his daughter, Heather and family, Andrew and Alex; their mutual children's mother, Debbie of Victoria; his brother, John and his wife, Wendy; half sister, Tanya; stepsister, Vanessa of Ontario; and his cousins, Marion and Errol of PEI; and Roy of Netherlands. He is predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth of Hamilton, Ontario and father, Carel of Oakville, Ontario. His beloved daughter, Christen, passed away in 2020 and it brings the family peace to know they will be together once again.

Roland was born in Curaçao, Dutch West Indies, he subsequently moved to Canada at a young age and was raised in and around Hamilton, Ontario. During these years, he could often be found on his Lightning-class sailboat with his brother, John, sailing around Hamilton Bay. In 1976 Roland decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life in British Columbia. It was there that he met Debbie and shared in the joy of having three children. Rollie enjoyed sharing his love of nature and outdoor activities with his children. Both Murray and Heather agree that family camping trips to Hornby Island are some of their fondest memories.

The family are grateful for condolences and will be planning a private celebration of life which will include spreading of Roland's ashes at some of his favourite camping and sailing locations. Roland valued community, kindness and generosity; he offered the same to many friends over his lifetime. Therefore, the family kindly requests that any donations go to 'Our Place', an organization which offers a sense of belonging to Greater Victoria's most vulnerable citizens.

Just came across this obit of my old partner Rollie. As with Kim and Mark, many fond memories and sometimes crazy times in the `70s with my old bud.
Lost contact many years ago...a lot of water under the bridge since then. A lot of memories of hanging out with Rollie (as we used to say "rollin´ in the `dert" :) He continues to be one of the most unforgettable people I ever met. Rest in peace Rolando.

Rollie was a great guy, good friends with my siblings Susan and Bill Arnold. I was friends with him too and he always had advice for me growing up in Hamilton. Rollie had a big heart and my deepest sympathies go to his family whom I know loved him very much. From John Arnold in Toronto

Many, many fond memories of my friend Rollie. Spent a lot of time with him over many years. Sang songs together , and just enjoyed our earlier years. What a great time to grow up.

Many fond memories of Rollie....we grew up together on the west mountain of Hamilton. How many times did I bang my head on that wagon wheel light fixture at your mom's place. LOL. Rollie was a good guitar player and singer and I can still here him doing a fantastic version of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Last I saw him was when he lived in Comox. He took a group of us out Coho fishing. Never thought we would catch anything but Rolly kept insisting he knew what he was doing.....and he was absolutely right. We caught 7 between our two boats. My sincere condolences to friends and family. Rest in peace my old friend. KK
