Sally POVRZENICH

POVRZENICH, Sally (Slavica) It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our treasured mother, cherished baka (grandmother), and great-grandmother (pra baka). Sally passed away peacefully on November 23, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Charlie (Drago). Sally will be greatly missed by her daughter Marianne Frkovic (Ivan), her son Joseph (Catherine Black), granddaughters Stephanie Di Ianni (Paul), Katie and Charlotte Povrzenich, and her cherished great-grandchildren John-Paul and Elise Di Ianni. Sally was born in Bukovica, Croatia, on June 13, 1925 where she was one of fourteen children to Josip and Magdalena. She is survived by sisters Nada Jambrosic and Anka Moskun (Vlado). Sally was a very loving mother, baka, and baka-baka. She was a meticulous homemaker and an accomplished baker. Her strength of character defined who she was. Her slight frame and short stature belied her will and determination. She loved playing gin rummy with her sisters (albeit using their unusual game rules), and spent hours with her cross-stitch and word-search puzzles. Mom was a proud member and volunteer of the Croatian National Home, and long time member of Holy Cross Parish and CFU Lodge 954. In her final year, Sally was a resident of Seasons Stoney Creek, and in that time she endeared herself to staff and fellow residents alike with her wit and kind ways. We will be forever grateful to the staff of Seasons for their compassionate care. There are no words to fully articulate our gratitude to every staff member. Mom loved you all. Our family also would like to thank Dr. Christina Fugere for her care and unending compassion. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
