Shea MacGowan Obituary

Peacefully at St. Peter's hospital on Friday January 7, 2022 at the young age of 65, Rose lost her battle with cancer. Rose was the devoted wife of 40 years to Dave MacGowan, loving mother to Jeff (Kelly), Tammy (Derek), Jody (Jason) and cherished Nana to Christine, Alyssa, Emily, Riley and Payton.
The family sends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at the City of Hamilton, where Rose worked for 30 years, and to her union brothers and sisters at CUPE Local 5167 for all their love and support during Rose's illness. Rose was always the first to lend her support or jump in when help was needed, so to have all that love acknowledged and given back to her during this difficult time was amazing. The family also sends immense gratitude and respect to the staff at St. Peter's Hospital, 3rd floor East wing. The care, support and love Rose received during her stay will never be forgotten.
Rose was a larger than life personality who left an impression wherever she went. The family takes great comfort in knowing her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all who were blessed to know her. A memorial page can be found on the Affordable Burial & Cremation website if you wish to share a story or memory of Rose on the tribute wall.
As per Rose's wishes, cremation has taken place and a small celebration of life will be planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's honor to St. Peter's Hospital or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Deepest condolences to the family
The lodge members could always count on Rose for her support, this is a snap of one of many memories we had in the labour movement. My family had great memories with Rose and her family over the years! RIP Rose

My thoughts and prayer go out to the MacGowan family at this difficult time. For many years Rose was on the front line representing members of Cupe 5167 at city hall. Organizing the Easter and Christmas breakfast brought joy to so many kids and the labour day parade/BBQ was always well organized. We will miss Rose so much and always remember how she was always there for the members.

I never saw Rose without a smile. Her beautiful spirit will forever be a part of 5167. My granddaughter said " the parades won't be the same without Rose." She will be greatly missed

I am heartbroken. Rose loved her family. Dave, her husband, greatest love and supporter. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Rose loved life. I am incredibly saddened for all of her family. Rose was my friend, my union sister. We had so many laughs and commonalities. She is a part of me and my union journey. Rose was my ally and supporter, as I was hers. The world was a better place with her in it. I am grateful for knowing her. Rose will forever be the heart of 5167. I love you Rosie Posie and you will always be remembered for your giving generous soul, your smile and bellowing laugh. Until we meet again, watch over all those that love you. Jodi xo

A loss for our entire movement, especially our CUPE Ontario family. Rose was almost always one of the first faces I saw when workers gathered to demand fairness and justice, especially in the Hamilton area. She will be greatly missed and always remembered as embodying what it meant to act in solidarity.
