Peacefully in his 97th year, on Good Friday, our hero and most beloved man known affectionally to all as "Dziadzia", took his final breath. He grasped God's hand and went to join his loving wife, Jadzia and son-in-law Kenny and his own Mom and Dad and his 11 siblings who were waiting for him with open arms.
He was a well-known respected soccer player in his prime in Toronto Ontario League and captained the Polish White Eagles club to City Championships in early and mid '50s. He received many weekly and monthly M.V.P. Awards and was voted by opposing players and fans and Sportswriters as Most Popular Player in 1956.
He had a shining up and coming soccer career in Europe after the war and was given many choices to further his career. He was asked by many top German teams to stay and play for them. He was given the opportunity to emigrate to Britain and play for Man United. He was also asked to emigrate to Chicago and play there and eventually join investors in Los Angeles to organize a new team and franchise and play in L.A.
Being the man he was, he chose family over personal glory and ambition. He chose Canada because he was told that it was the best place to provide a better life for his wife and baby girl. This is how he lived all his amazing life, family always first. He was respected and loved by all he met and loved people the same way.
He leaves behind daughter Irene Bruce, grandson Clifford and wife Jacqueline, great-granddaughters Vanessa and Emily and great-grandson Thomas. Our Dziadzi will be sadly missed but has left is with so many wonderful memories and stories that they will comfort us until we meet again.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the caretakers and staff of Maple Villa LTC. They will never be forgotten for the compassionate and loving way that they looked after our wonderful "Stan the man."
Per his wishes, a private cremation and family farewell has been held. Donations to Dementia/Alzheimer Society would be appreciated if so wished.
