It is with heavy hearts that we announce Stan's passing, in the presence of his family, on Wednesday July 13, 2022, age 80 years. Loving and supportive father to Michelle Ysseldyk and her husband Scott. Cherished Grandpa to Tyler and Jessica, and his "four-legged grandchildren". Stan is predeceased by his parents Ted and Arnetta Ruhl, as well as siblings Don Ruhl and Audrey Hopkins. He will be missed by nieces and nephews Brent, Paul, Rosalie, Greg, Don, and Sharon, and their families. Stan was born and raised in the Hanover area, later marrying, and raising a family in the Burlington and Niagara regions. Later in life, Stan purchased a cottage in Sauble Beach where he would spend his summers along the shore of beautiful Lake Huron. Stan was known for his love of sports, most notably hockey, golf, baseball, football, and rugby. He played, coached, and refereed in many athletic disciplines, and he was an avid fan of the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and the Tiger-Cats. Following his retirement from Allstate Insurance, Stan managed the BOHC clubhouse and was inducted into the Burlington Oldtimers Hockey Club's Hall of Fame in 2020. Stan played as a forward in BOHC, where he was known as "a great player to have on your team and a headache for the opposing defensemen". Stan will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and easy-going nature. He will be greatly missed by his friends and the countless people whose lives he touched. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at both St. Peter's Hospital and Juravinski Hospital's E2 ward for their care and compassion. Following cremation, Stan will be interred at a graveside ceremony held for family and friends on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens (1895 Main St. W., Hamilton) followed by a celebration of life at Hector's, the BOHC lounge, located at 3521 Mainway, Burlington. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Stan's honor is encouraged to contribute to the McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation, a charity that he supported for many years. Arrangements entrusted to Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home - Ancaster (905-648-3852).
