February 21, 1929 - May 26, 2023
Surrounded by love, Velma Louise Colizza peacefully passed away on May 26, 2023. Velma's family is deeply saddened by the loss of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. To be loved by her was a gift that she gave generously during her 94 years and for which her family is forever grateful.
A devout wife to Vincent Patrick Colizza for 60 years (predeceased August 16, 2012). Velma is survived by her loving children Patricia (Lee), Vincent (Ferne), Wayne (Marlene), Marlene (Cameron), Cheryl and Lisa; and by her precious grandchildren Lauren (Brian), Heather (Mike), Alicia (Andrew), Kayla (Pete), Wayne, Christina, Michael (Sami), Drew, Nicholas, and Michael; and great-grandchildren Jameson and Clark. Velma is predeceased by her brother Victor and survived by sister Inez, brother-in-law Elmo Nunziato, sister-in-law Jennie Colizza and a multitude of extended family members who love her dearly.
Velma built her life with Vincent on a foundation of deep-rooted Catholic faith, unconditional love for family, a strong work ethic, humility, and zeal. She learned her joy for the fullness of life from her parents Palmira and Luigi Filipuzzi, Italian immigrants who left their home in 1926 to start a new life in North America.
Velma and Vincent believed in "family first, family always" and committed themselves to providing the best life for their children. Velma was her family's peacekeeper and children's listening ear. She offered those she loved her quiet wisdom, joyful wit and an abundance of art and creativity. She was a prolific watercolor artist, seamstress, wine connoisseur, chef of many meals for her large family, volunteer with John Howard Society, and office manager for her family's businesses. Her many talents, including her bocce prowess, carried through to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Velma, the matriarch. She was the "light" in every room she entered. While her earthly light has dimmed, her spiritual light prevails.
The family is deeply grateful to the care team at Carpenter Hospice for their outstanding support through Velma's final journey. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, Ontario.
A sincere thank you to all who provided support during this difficult time. There will be a private funeral mass and celebration of Velma's life for her immediate family.
