Venturino SALVI Obituary

Born July 6, 1934 S. Pietro D'Arli, AP - Died May 21, 2023 Mt. Hope, ON

With bittersweet sorrow we announce the passing of our Dad, patriarch and backbone of our family who has left us to rejoin the love of his life our Mom, Silvana Salvi of 67 years to continue their romance in heaven. Loved to the core by his daughters and sons in-law, Franca and Domenic Toscani, Mimi Stringhi, Lucy and Frank Romano, Bruna Toscani and Laura and Chris Maziarczyk. Nonno's beautiful legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren Simona (Daryl), Stefanie (Mark), Joseph (Lindsay), Sasha, Jessica (Nikola), Anthony (Sarah), Victoria (Marcus), Jilda (Matt), Savannah (Edward), Laura (Steve), Jacob and Christian. Bisnonno to great-grandchildren Theo, Juliet, Max, Jameson, Gwendolyn, Maeve, Anja, Ruby, Gianfranco, Sofia, Georgia (his special Blondie), Gino and Delilah. Predeceased by his parents Emidio and Paola (Stepmother Lucia) Salvi, and in-laws Francesco and Bambina Vitucci. Brothers in heaven Antonio and Serafino Salvi and his beloved sister Evelina (Elio) Mancini of Nova Scotia, Raffaele Vitucci, Lino Vitucci, Carolina & Franco Cercone, Ottavio Vitucci and Vincenzo Vitucci. Survived by his in-laws, Guido (late Giuseppina) Vitucci, Peppino & Lina Vitucci, Marisa (late Raffaele) Battaglini, Roberto & Pina Vitucci forever by his side, Amelia (late Gino) Mirandola of Italy, Norma (Mark) Dumais, Ada Vitucci of Australia, Mafalda and Pia Salvi. Our dearest cousins, family and friends will truly miss his smile, kind heart and witty sense of humour. Dad immigrated to Canada in 1954 by way of Cape Breton, NS settling in Hamilton to become an ever proud Canadian. He meets and weds his eternal companion in 1956 and the journey begins. Working in the construction field and becoming proprietor of V. Salvi Spraying Ltd for over 35 years serving the GTA with pride as his slogan ... "when I'm thru the ceilings look like new!" Dad was always so happy with the small things in life; compassionate, friendly and a great storyteller. But boy, did he have a stubborn streak till he took his last breath. Even if you were right, you were always wrong! Growing up with Dad who worked 24/7 but never failed to provide quality time with his family. Saturday nights making bags of popcorn and loading us into the station wagon for drive-in movies. Our summer highlights were trips to Niagara Falls each year, annual CNE long weekends, Marineland and Confederation Park. By today's standards that doesn't seem much, but we treasure those beautiful memories. Where do we begin when talking about his garden? His 5 daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren were the blooming flowers in his heart. But his magnificent garden was comparable to none. The joy he embraced in nature, watching seedlings grow to fruitful heights and all of us including friends and neighbours reaping the rewards. Pavarotti Domingo Boccelli blaring as he worked his green thumb to the ground. His love of cars from the time he arrived in Canada. The first to drive a monarch convertible in 1955 while selling tickets for Nilla Pizzi concert. His 1972 Chrysler Newport was "his Cadillac" of choice. His love of movies, biggest fan of classics, action with more explosions the better, and favourite TV sitcom reruns on CHCH brought him so much joy. With Mom by his side, he loved going to see the biggest blockbusters. As he would react "Ohhhh man!". His collection of VHS/DVD's drove Mom crazy! Once he retired, his photography phase began, travelling all over the GTA with Mom by his side photographing places and people of interest, especially construction sites with his disposable cameras. The Walmart photo lab knew him by first name basis in those days. Our Dad: the Fashionista, his love of smart dressing from head to toe with a vast collection of hats to match. He loved to strut his stuff into any venue with pride and joy. FAMILY was his number one commitment with endless Sunday dinners welcoming his sons-in-law, girlfriends, boyfriends and all their friends to enjoy the homemade table set by Mom. Sitting at the head of the table beaming with pride and joy at the happiness we once had enjoyed. We would like to thank First Responders, especially Derrick Walsh, who worked tirelessly for Dad. The amazing staff at Juravinski Emergency and ICU (Jessica, Claudia, Karen, Dr. Swan). In lieu of flowers please donate to Hamilton Victory Gardens (https://hamiltonvictorygardens.org/donate/). Dad didn't believe in certain Italian traditions especially wearing black under these circumstances. So don't be surprised to see our Celebration of Life in full colour like our DAD! Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton (905-574-0405) on Sunday, May 28th from 5-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish on Monday, May 29th at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels, 681 Mud Street, Stoney Creek.
