Violet Bella Shaw

1929-2022

The family of Violet Shaw is saddened to announce her passing at St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Predeceased by her devoted husband, John, granddaughter Bailey, parents Daniel and Violet Reid, sister Audrey Lewis, and brothers Ken, Dan, Ernie, and Harry. Loving mother of Bryan (Lisa) Shaw, Rod (Laura) Shaw, and Valerie (Tim) Munro. Caring Grandma to Melissa, Megan, Mitchell, Quinlan and Liam, Great-Grandma to Everest, Oakley, and Adeline. Violet was born and raised in Hamilton and married the love of her life in 1954. John and Vi built and lived in their Ancaster home where they raised their children. Working as a schoolteacher for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School board, Violet loved children and the challenge of helping them learn. She often tutored her grandchildren and neighborhood kids struggling to learn to read and write. After her kids were grown, she loved working part-time at Robinsons department store. After retirement, John and Violet enjoyed many more years together attending plays, vacationing, and square-dancing at the Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre, until John's passing in 2008. In light of the covid-19 restrictions, a private family internment was held at Mount Hamilton Cemetery.
