W. Datars Obituary

Dr. W. Ross Datars, FRSC, was born in Desboro Ont. to Albert and Leona Datars on June 14, 1932. Ross was a corn farmer, research physicist and a physics professor at McMaster University. Throughout his life he grew more than 250,000 bushels of corn, published more than 250 peer reviewed journal articles, coached more than 100 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, taught physics to thousands of undergraduates, and with his wife Eleanor he raised 3 sons. Ross loved working on his farm and loved working in his lab. He was deeply committed to his family, his students, his faculty, his university, his church and his friends. Ross passed away on Dec 17 at St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas Ontario. He will be deeply missed by his twin brother Robert, his son Tim, his son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Elaine, his son and daughter-in-law David and Marcia, and his 5 grandchildren Zachary, Isabel, Mahaylia, Kieran and Beatrix. I am saddened by the passing of Dr. Ross Datars. Ross was my supervisor for my PhD degree in Physics at McMaster University. He was caring and supportive in a quiet way, and provided the needed guidance for my PhD work. My deepest condolences to the family.
