Wayne Gallant Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Wayne St. Claire Gallant passed away peacefully at home, at age 78, with his love by his side. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, he will be sorely missed. He was a friend to all, known for his kind heart and thoughtfulness. No matter what life threw his way, he handled every obstacle with grace and humour.
Wayne was an excellent storyteller, recounting the antics of him and his siblings growing up in Charlottetown, PEI, to stories of seeing the world while in the Navy, to arriving in Hamilton and starting work at Stelco, and then meeting the love of his life, Sharon. He continued to share his light-heartedness and fun-loving ways with his friends and family. We have fond memories of him doting on his grandchildren, finding ways for them to have fun and enjoy the outside. A life-long animal lover, neighbourhood squirrels and pets (both his own and others) enjoyed treats and food from him over the years. He passed on his love of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays to his children and grandchildren, who loved to watch the games with him.
Wayne was a devoted husband to Sharon (Hamilton); supportive father of Darren (Amy) and Michelle (Theron); nurturing grandfather of Rowan, Claire, Griffin, and Parker; loyal brother of Ramona Gallant, Betty Johnson (Don), and George Gallant (Theresa); brother-in-law of Odette Gallant and Rita Hamilton; and an uncle and cousin to many. He was predeceased by his father, Emil, and his mother, Margaret; his brother Vern; sisters Debbie MacInnis and Sheila and her husband Glen Hansen; and in-laws Harvey and Susan Butler, Bill and Linda Hamilton, and George Hamilton.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Tues., May 16 from 1 - 4pm, at Michaelangelo Events & Conference Centre (1555 Upper Ottawa St). Friends and family are invited to join us and celebrate a life well-lived. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (cpff.ca) to continue their research. We would like to thank the numerous VON nurses and palliative care team that helped to keep Wayne comfortable at home. As per Wayne's wishes, cremation has taken place.
