Willem VANDERPOL

It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hos- pital in Hamilton. Willem at the age of 84 was the beloved husband of Dorothy for more than 59 years. Proud and devoted father of Alison (the late Larry) and Jack (Anna). Much loved Opa of Aric, Justin, Jacobus, Emile, Elijah and Isabella. Dear brother of Trudy Dougans (Bob), Martha Cranston (Murray), Dikkie Wettlaufer (Ron) and Larry Vanderpol (the late Ursula). Forever in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives in North America and overseas. William worked as a millwright at Stelco for 50 years, and he was also a member of the 1972 Olympic Water Polo Team. He continued his athletic career as an international water polo referee. He loved to travel and had a real passion for gardening. A heartfelt thank you to the caring and compassionate doctors, PSWs and many caregivers during his illness. Willem's love for his family was immeasurable. Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home "Will- iam J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Wednes- day, July 20, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. In keeping with Willem's wishes, a private cremation will follow. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 154 (29 Caithness Street East, Caledonia N3W 1B7) would be appreciated.
