William Goddard Obituary

William Arthur Goddard, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2022 at St Joseph's Villa, Long Term Care facility in Dundas. He was born June 7, 1926, in Hamilton, son of George Goddard and Edith Cook. He is predeceased by brothers George, Jack, Jimmy and sister Irene "Honey" (Booth). Married to Gladys Evelyn Oldfield, the love of his life for 65 years. She preceded him in death in 2012. Bill is survived by his 2 sons, 3 daughters, 3 sons-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law. Karen Todd (Garnet), Bill (Karen), Barbara Norell (Kevin), George, Colleen Solomon (Dave). Bill has 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was a true patriot, taking pride in his service as a WW II veteran with Hamilton's RHLI. After the war he worked for the American Can Co. for 30 years. His second career was with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 28 years. Bill will be fondly remembered as a wonderfully devoted custodian for the Church, meticulously maintaining the church building at the corner of Stone Church Rd. and Upper Sherman Ave. Bill loved music and had a beautiful tenor voice. He led by example. His favorite scripture was; "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord". He is loved and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that those who feel so inclined offer an unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need, just like Bill would have done. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Bill's honor on October 22nd, 2022, 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 701 Stone Church Rd East.

We are so sorry to have just learned of Bill's passing and would have loved to attend his memorial service last Saturday. We know he will be dearly missed, but we're also happy he is now reunited with his sweetheart and other family and friends who predeceased him. Bill's long and honourable life was spent serving the Lord whom we know welcomed him home with open arms. Although we don't know Bill well, he reminds me of my own father in many ways, just one of which was his love for the Lord's house, both the meeting house and the temple. We love the Goddard family and are happy to accept your invitation to do an act of kindness for someone in need. We send our love and condolences knowing you have many happy memories to comfort you and the wonderful knowledge that families can be together forever.

He was such a good person. Always supported me, made me laugh and set a great example of a loving father. One of a kind. Love him

I remember when Brother Goddard was a temple worker in the Toronto temple. He spoke proudly of his daughter Barbara to the temple workers, and the fact that she had served a mission.

We will miss Uncle Bill. When I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, my father was very proud of this. We went golfing one day and he said we had a guest joining us. When we got to the first tee off I walked around the storage shed on the tee and who was there but my Uncle Bill. He greeted me with a hand shake and said good afternoon Sister Baker and I said good afternoon Brother Goddard...............he was my favorite uncle. Miss you Uncle Bill but we will see you again.
