ZARKO DRAGAS Obituary

Peacefully surrounded by his family, Zarko (Ziggy) passed away Friday, February 19th at the age of 83. Loving husband and soulmate of Andja, devoted father and hero of Olga, Vera, Vesna and furry little man Archie. Fondly remembered by his brother Dusan (Kataya), nephew David (Chrissi), the Ljiljak, Bjelic and Momic families. He will also be greatly missed by family and friends in Canada and abroad. The second youngest of 7, Zarko was born in Strmica Knin and came to Canada in 1961. He was a proud Stelco retiree after 33 years service working in #3 B&B. In his retirement he was an avid swimmer and enjoyed his daily walks. He loved watching sports especially the Blue Jays and Leafs. Zarko will be remembered for his kindness, selflessness, strong work ethic, smile and quick wit. His strength, courage and determination were unmatched. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Extendicare and especially the Dundurn neighbourhood for their care and compassion to Ziggy. Our heartfelt gratitude to Marlo, Jojie, Bren and Carmina for always taking such good care of Pops. Due to the pandemic a private service is planned, and memorial service will take place at a later date. I remember Uncle Zek always smiling and so happy to see us every time we visited! He was such a warm and friendly person. I will miss him a lot! (Chrissi, Dave and Margot)

I will always remember my uncle Zek as a kind, generous man with a great sense of humour. One time, when I was young, he and his family stopped by our house to give us some gifts. He had just came back from Eerie Pennsylvania and bought me the coolest t-shirt and chocolates. For no reason, other than his thoughtfulness and love, Uncle Zek turned a regular July evening into Christmas.

When my daughter was born, he called to congratulate me and tell me that now that I’m a father, I must, “make sure to stay especially close with God.”
I certainly did and I thank him for the words of wisdom. I know uncle Zek is now with God. May you rest eternally in peace. All our love your NYC family (David, Chrissi, and Margot)
