I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. He and I were friends and colleagues at BMO for years. Don provided me with invaluable advice for an investment fund for my younger sister in the early 90's and I can honestly say that he has proven his expertise with the success of this fund.
I loved his M5's and we constantly talked about cars.
I shall miss him greatly. My sincerest condolences to Tony and Jan.

I will always remember Don as one of my dearest friends and the quintessential host. Who can ever forget those memorable Robbie Burn dinners that Don and Jan hosted.
Don's Address to the Haggis was nothing less than pure theater. Dressed in the full Scottish Reglia, Don read aloud (in the true Scottish dialect)--"“Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!” In the background was the supporting bagpipe music.
I had the privilege of sitting with Don on many occasions covering local politics, and other global news items while sitting outside in their back garden. Don truly enjoyed his friends, family and guests and always made each and everyone welcome. He was a kind, thoughtful man and a true gentleman. You will be missed dearly by both Shirley and I.
God be with you.
Your friends, Finn and Shirley Madsen

Upon hearing the news of Don's passing, I would like to extend my heartfelt and deepest condolences to Jan and members of Don's family. It was an honour and a privilege to call Don a friend and enjoy his camaraderie, which included countless conversations spanning from cigars and art to capital markets and investments. In today's age Don was a rarity, a true gentleman, who demonstrated kindness, respect, intellect, eloquence, and tact.

I had the privilege of meeting with Mr. Mutch several times while he was a Director at Via Rail Canada. He always had time to listen to an employee, to be kind and steadfast. He will be missed.
