ALDONA BRICKUS Obituary

BRICKUS, ALDONA September 1923 - January 2022 (98 years) Aldona, of Toronto ON, passed away, with family close to her side, on January 6, 2022. Aldona was born in Kaunas Lithuania in 1923, the elder sister to Dana (predeceased). Due to WWII conditions, Aldona went to Denmark where she met and married our father, Aloyzas (predeceased), left Europe after the second world war and arrived in Canada in 1957 to become part of the Lithuanian diaspora in Toronto. In Canada, she lived out her life in the Etobicoke area with her husband, daughters (Milda, Eva, Gunda, Donna) and two more generations that followed: six wonderful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Aldona was a tenacious artist whose style was best expressed as folk art. An avid reader, animal lover, lifelong learner, seamstress, photographer, jungian enthusiast, wonderful cook, she was an excellent role model to her 4 daughters who she raised and steeped in Lithuanian culture. She embraced all things that forwarded the human spirit, mind, body, life on earth and especially cherished time spent surrounded by family. Aldona and her daughters want to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Labdara Nursing home who were integral to her care and happiness, and the helpful support they provided to family during her passing. Visitation at 10 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. will take place on Saturday, January 22nd at the Lithuanian Resurrection Parish in Etobicoke, 1 Resurrection Road. Interment will follow at a later date. All Covid safety protocols will be followed. Memorial contributions in Aldona's memory can be made to Labdara Nursing Home or the Lithuanian Resurrection Parish.

My deepest heartfelt sympathies to the family. Aldona was certainly one of a kind and I have many wonderful memories of time spent together and sharing her love of nature. When I was younger I considered her to be the wild mushroom expert and her borscht was to die for! I hope the fond memories will warm the hearts of her children and help lessen the pain.

What a life lived! I'm glad that I got to know Aldona a little through pictures and stories shared by Gunda. I really enjoyed them. She was clearly loved by many and will be greatly missed. May she Rest in Peace. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Sandy
